David Hardware began with a simple idea: treat people like family and build relationships that last. That philosophy took root back in 1977, when Dan David started his career in commercial hardware at Wheeler Hardware. There, he had the privilege of working beside and mentored by his father-in-law, Robert Nelson—longtime co-owner and vice president—Dan learned the value of integrity, craftsmanship, and hard work.
A decade later, in 1987, Dan stepped out on his own and founded David Hardware. What began as a one-man venture quickly became a true family operation grounded in unmatched service and deep industry expertise. Work began in the garage of a house with a couple shelves for inventory, a small bedroom used as an office with a typewriter, a part time secretary (wife, mother of three), and a dog. A few faithful customers got DHI rolling.
By 1998, Dan’s daughter Laura joined the company, followed by her husband Jon in 2007. In 2000, Dan’s youngest daughter, Andi, came aboard, later joined by her husband Nick in 2018. Today, the third generation has begun to carry the torch as three of Dan’s granddaughters now contribute their talents to the family legacy—and our small team continues to grow with people who share the same values and commitment.
Nearly five decades after Dan first entered the industry, David Hardware remains rooted in the same values that started it all family, dedication, and a commitment to doing what’s right for our customers. We are a Christ-centered, conservative, family-focused company that strives to honor God with our words and actions in how we conduct business with our customers and how we function as a team.
